Green City/Blue River: South Bend and the Saint Joseph River

A special event to bring together local groups who have an interest in the St. Joseph River and its role in a growing and sustainable South Bend.

We hope to facilitate communication among local groups representing important perspectives on:

  • improving water/river ecology quality
  • enhancing recreational use on and around the River
  • enhancing development opportunities

East Race Turns 30!

The South Bend Tribune published an article last week about the history of making the East Race a reality. Unfortunately, it refers to our group as being “now defunct,” but otherwise it’s a great summary of what a major undertaking this was, and how fortunate we are thanks to the hard work of those before us.

Another Successful Paddlefest!

PaddleFestCongratulations to the organizers and participants of the 2013 Paddlefest on June 30th. For more information about this year’s event, check out WNDU’s coverage or, of course, the official event page. Mark your calendar now for the 2014 event: as always, it will be the last Sunday in June.

South Bend Energy Week: Sept. 24-29

The South Bend Municipal Energy Office website for Energy Week is now live! Check it out: http://sbmeo.com/EnergyWeek2012/

There will be various expos every day from Tuesday, 9/24 to Saturday, 9/26 in addition to a wide variety of energy-related events. The website includes further details including a detailed schedule of events.

July Meeting (Postponed from June)

The July Michiana Watershed meeting will be Tuesday night (July 10 th) at 6:30 p.m. in the Molloy Room of the St. Joseph Co. Library in downtown South Bend.

Paddler’s Guide to the St. Joseph River

Thanks to a generous grant from I/N Tek & I/N Kote, and the work of Ethan Sauer, Karla Cruise and Eureka Cartography, the Michiana Watershed is pleased to announce that an updated paddler’s guide to the St. Joseph River is now in publication.

Clicking on the thumbnails of either the map or cover below will open larger jpeg versions (about four or five megabytes, respectively), but the printed versions are of considerably higher quality. Please get in touch with us if you would like a copy!

2012 Rain Barrel Art Auction

Planning for the 2nd Annual Michiana Rain Barrel Art Auction is underway, and the date and location been set: Friday, May 4 at the South Bend Museum of Art.

Dec. Meeting: S.B. Municipal Energy Director as Special Guest

Please join us for our December meeting: Jon Burke, Municipal Energy Director of the City of South Bend, will give a special presentation on the city’s energy initiatives.
